Compatibility with Windows 10 and 11
All the apps on this site run on both Windows 10 and Windows 11, but some details differ between the two. This page lists the differences.
Windows 11
- Full support for every app on this site. New releases are tested on Windows 11 first.
- Built-in alternative: the Snipping Tool's Text actions can copy text from a screenshot. You may not need a separate app for occasional use.
- Tray icons: Windows 11 hides new tray icons by default. If Capture2Text or PowerToys seem to have disappeared, click the ^ overflow arrow, or pin the icon in Settings → Personalization → Taskbar → Other system tray icons.
- Right-click menu: "Send to" and some shell entries are under Show more options.
Windows 10
- Version 22H2 is the final Windows 10 release and the one to be on. PowerToys requires at least 2004 (build 19041).
- End of support: Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. Expect developers to drop Windows 10 in future versions. Keep the last installer that worked if you must stay on Windows 10.
- winget may be missing on older installs. Install or update App Installer from the Microsoft Store to get it.
- Win+Q opens Windows Search by default. This clashes with Capture2Text's default hotkey. See Conflicts.

S mode
Windows 10 and 11 in S mode can only install apps from the Microsoft Store. Of the apps here, only the Store versions of PowerToys and Text Grab will install. To use the others, switch out of S mode. This is free but one-way: open the Microsoft Store and search for "Switch out of S mode".
ARM-based PCs (Snapdragon)
- PowerToys has a native ARM64 build. Choose the ARM64 installer or use the Store.
- x64-only apps (Tesseract, Capture2Text, and others) run under Windows 11's x64 emulation. They usually work but are slower on large batches.
- Windows 10 on ARM cannot emulate x64 apps. Use Windows 11 on ARM devices.
32-bit Windows
Windows 11 is 64-bit only, and most current OCR apps are 64-bit only. If you run 32-bit Windows 10, you are limited to older releases of Capture2Text, NAPS2, or Tesseract, where the developer still publishes them.
