Installation Instructions

Short install steps for each app. For a full walkthrough with screenshots of each step and first-run setup, see the complete installation guide.

PowerToys Text Extractor

  1. Install PowerToysGet it from the Microsoft Store, run the installer from GitHub, or run winget install --id Microsoft.PowerToys --source winget.
  2. Enable Text ExtractorOpen PowerToys Settings → Text Extractor and turn it on.
  3. Test itPress Win+Shift+T, drag over some text, and paste it into Notepad.

Text Grab

  1. InstallFrom the Microsoft Store, or download a release from GitHub and run it.
  2. Complete the first-run wizardPick your default mode (Full-screen, Grab Frame, or Edit Text) and a hotkey.

Capture2Text (portable)

  1. Download the .zipGet it from the official SourceForge project page.
  2. Extract itRight-click → Extract All to a folder you own, for example C:\Tools\Capture2Text. Do not run it from inside the zip.
  3. Run Capture2Text.exeAn icon appears in the tray. Press Win+Q to start a capture (the default hotkey).

NAPS2

  1. Run the installerDownload it from naps2.com and complete the setup wizard. Or extract the portable zip.
  2. Download OCR languagesOpen NAPS2 → OCR → download the languages you need.

Tesseract OCR

  1. Run the UB Mannheim installerIn the components list, add any extra languages and scripts you need.
  2. Add it to PATHAdd C:\Program Files\Tesseract-OCR to your user or system PATH.
  3. VerifyOpen a new terminal and run tesseract --version.

ABBYY FineReader PDF

  1. Download the trial or the purchased installerFrom the ABBYY website.
  2. Install and activateRun the installer as an administrator, then sign in or enter your serial number to activate.
